What this app does
Leap Scanner ranks long-dated call option candidates from a selected stock universe and returns the strongest matches first. The app is built around a LEAPS workflow, not a short-term scalp workflow, and the page is explicitly set to run in LEAPS mode. The backend scans the selected universe, classifies rows by quality, returns ranked candidates, and shows the current snapshot in the results table.
Universe profiles
The scanner supports three universe profiles:
• Quality = high-quality businesses with liquid LEAPS
• Growth = high-growth companies with strong long-term potential
• All = every stock that passes the LEAPS universe filters
Switching the profile changes which tickers are scanned and ranked.
LEAPS style selection
The scanner supports two styles:
• OTM = out-of-the-money
• DITM = deep-in-the-money
Style changes more than the label. It changes which delta range the scanner prefers, how contracts are evaluated, and which contracts are treated as closer to ideal for that mode.
What the backend checks
Each candidate is reviewed using stock quality, option quality, growth context, and technical context. The backend now returns structured scoring fields:
• LEAPS Score = overall ranking score
• Business Score = financial strength and profitability quality
• Options Score = open interest, volume, spread, and delta fit
• Growth Score = longer-term growth context such as CAGR when available
• Technical Score = relative-volume / price-structure context
Hard filters
A setup is rejected as AVOID if required quality gates fail. That can include missing fundamentals, weak business quality, insufficient open interest, spreads that are too wide, poor delta fit, or option volume below the configured minimum.
Style-aware delta logic
The scanner uses different preferred delta behavior by style.
• DITM prefers roughly 0.75–0.95 delta and tighter spreads.
• OTM prefers roughly 0.20–0.45 delta and similarly controlled spreads.
How stages are assigned
The app uses four visible stages:
• GO
• READY
• WATCH
• AVOID
A row must clear the scanner’s quality and contract checks before it can become READY. After ranking, only a top portion of strong candidates are promoted to GO. Everyone else stays READY or WATCH. AVOID rows are excluded from the main view unless explicitly included.
How GO is determined
GO is not simply “passes minimum filters.” A row must first clear minimum quality, liquidity, spread, and delta gates. Then the backend uses the LEAPS Score to promote only the strongest eligible names. Percentile alone is not enough to create a GO candidate.
What appears in the table
The current UI shows one combined LEAPS results table with:
• Score
• Ticker
• Stage
• Contract
• Spot
• DTE
• Mid
• Delta
• Open Interest
• % OTM
The Contract area should be read alongside the overall Score and component scores returned by the backend.
Refresh behavior
The page is set to LEAPS mode. In LEAPS mode the frontend uses a slower polling cadence than intraday mode, and the backend also maintains cached LEAPS snapshots. The UI can still be manually refreshed with the Refresh now button.
How to use it well
Use the scanner as a narrowing and ranking tool. Start with the universe profile, switch between OTM and DITM depending on the style of exposure you want, then compare stage, liquidity, delta, DTE, and strike positioning before doing any deeper chart or thesis review.
Ticker
The stock symbol currently being evaluated.
Stage
The scanner’s current classification for the setup.
• GO = strongest currently promoted candidates
• READY = passed key checks and is close to top tier
• WATCH = valid enough to monitor but not strong enough for promotion
• AVOID = failed hard filters or fell below minimum standards
Contract
This cell summarizes the selected contract style and the scanner's component scores:
• contract type
• Business Score
• Options Score
• Technical Score
• Growth Score
• strike information
Business Score
Measures stock-level quality using financial strength and profitability inputs. Higher business quality improves the overall LEAPS Score.
Options Score
Measures contract quality using open interest, volume, spread, and delta fit. Higher option quality improves ranking and GO eligibility.
Technical Score
Measures price-structure and relative-volume context. It helps separate clean setups from weaker chart conditions.
Growth Score
Measures longer-term growth context, including historical growth inputs when available.
Spot
The current stock price shown for the candidate.
DTE
Days to expiration. The app calculates this from the selected LEAPS expiration date and displays the remaining days for the contract.
Mid
Option midpoint pricing. This is the mid-price shown for the selected contract, not a guaranteed execution price.
Δ (Delta)
Delta is used directly in classification and ranking.
• OTM mode prefers delta closer to the OTM target band
• DITM mode prefers delta closer to the DITM target band
The farther a contract is from the style target, the more it is penalized in ranking.
OI (Open Interest)
A liquidity proxy and one of the core contract-quality inputs. Too little OI can force AVOID. Higher OI improves rank quality.
Spread %
The backend evaluates spread quality directly. Very wide spreads can force AVOID, while tighter spreads improve rank quality.
Option volume
Minimum option volume is also part of the hard filters. Contracts with too little volume can be rejected.
% OTM
Percent out-of-the-money is calculated in the frontend from the current spot price and extracted strike. It helps show how aggressive the strike is relative to the stock price.
LEAPS Score
The primary 0–10 overall score used to order candidates. It combines business quality, option quality, technical context, growth, and risk inputs.
Returned vs scanned
The backend meta output tracks how many names were scanned, classified, rejected, and returned. So the table is a filtered and ranked result set, not a raw dump of every scanned ticker.
Educational use only
Leap Scanner is a research and filtering tool. It is not a broker, not an adviser, and not a trade recommendation engine. Nothing shown in the scanner should be treated as personalized investment advice or an instruction to buy, sell, or hold any security or option contract.
How results should be interpreted
GO, READY, WATCH, and AVOID are internal scanner states based on the app’s scoring and filter rules. They are not guarantees of performance and they are not signals that a trade is suitable for you.
Data risk
The app depends on market data, option-chain data, and financial data from external providers and cached backend snapshots. Quotes, midpoint values, open interest, option volume, expiration data, and derived metrics may be delayed, incomplete, unavailable, or inaccurate.
Model risk
The scanner uses fixed thresholds and ranking logic, including FS, PR, delta targets, spread checks, open-interest checks, and volume gates. Those rules are simplified decision-support logic, not a complete model of market behavior.
Options are risky
LEAPS can still lose substantial value, spreads can widen, liquidity can disappear, and options can expire worthless. Even contracts that rank well in the scanner may perform poorly in real market conditions.
Execution risk
Mid prices shown in the table are reference values only. Real fills may be materially different because of bid/ask spread, slippage, liquidity conditions, market movement, or partial execution.
You remain responsible
Any trade, position size, hedge, timing decision, or risk decision made after using this app is entirely your responsibility. You should independently review chart context, company-specific risk, earnings timing, liquidity, volatility, and portfolio fit before acting.
No guarantee
Past rankings, current stage labels, and scanner outputs do not guarantee future returns. The market can change faster than the refresh interval, and results can become stale between refreshes.
